Destinations | New Caledonia
New Caledonia is only a couple of hours from Australia and New Zealand and it is also a couple of cultures away.
The capital, Noumea, is sophisticated and French and, away from the main city, you can discover the fascinating 'kanak' (Melanesian) culture. While French, everyone working in the hospitality and tourism industries speaks English. It is more expensive 'on the ground' (restaurants etc) than some other Pacific destinations, but can be extremely rewarding. And, being a little further south, the climate is more sub-tropical than tropical.
